Founded in 1998 by four PhD candidates with a vision, Spatial Informatics Group (SIG) has grown into an internationally recognized organization dedicated to innovative solutions in geospatial analysis, environmental sciences, and socioeconomic sciences. SIG's mission is to contribute to the development of a global green economy, ensuring a sustainable future through groundbreaking research, cutting-edge technologies, and collaborative partnerships. Since May 2025, SIG and the Wildfire Science & Technology Commons have collaborated to advance geospatial solutions for wildfire management through the use of the Wildfire Commons, participated in the Scale and Sustain Working Group, and authored joint academic publications and presentations.
