Introducing the Wildfire Science & Technology Commons

We believe that avoiding devastating wildfires requires urgent, innovative, and collaborative solutions. The Wildfire Commons is a bold new initiative designed to accelerate technological innovations for wildfire management and mitigation. We are building a community platform around open data, cutting-edge science, AI, and shared knowledge.

Our Mission and Vision

Our mission is to bring people together to break down the barriers that currently exist between wildfire-related data, models, and tools. Today these resources are siloed, which slows down innovation. We have the opportunity to create a seamless, smart platform to enable solutions that revolutionize how we understand, respond to, and prevent wildfires.

Together, we can protect lives, property, and ecosystems from the ever-growing threat of wildfires.

Wildfire Commons Webinar: Synoptic

( to Pacific)

Synoptic Data was formed to transform weather data collection and create a comprehensive, real-time source of information that anyone could access. With a passion to provide access to data for all, they are building a platform where valuable weather and environmental information from hundreds of data sources—ranging from personal weather stations to government networks—come together seamlessly. Join us on November 10, 2025, at 12 pm PDT to hear from Melanie Scott and Miranda Bitting to learn how to use Synoptic's Viewer and apply for the Open Access Program. You will also be able to see a working example of Synoptic data being used in the Wildfire Commons.
